Soft Tissue Therapy

The perfect therapy to guide healing and resolve stubborn muscle tension

  • Improve healing after sprains and strains
  • Relieve muscle tension
  • Remove scar tissue from muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia

Adhesion Breakers are stainless steel tools used for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (You may have heard of similar tools, such as Graston Technique, gua sha and FAKTR tools). This system of healing has been used for centuries in Chinese medicine to remove scar tissue, reduce pain and improve healing in muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Adhesion Breakers are used to create localized pressure and friction where adhesions and scar tissue have formed. This is one of many myofascial release techniques that guides the inflammatory process of healing so that damaged tissue can be replaced with organized healthy tissue.

Common conditions successfully treated with Adhesion Breakers:

  • Ankle sprains
  • Shin splints
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee pain
  • IT band syndrome
  • Tendonitis
  • Medial/lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow/golf elbow)
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Back and neck pain.

FAQ

What causes tissue scarring?
Scar tissue develops for many reasons, primarily:

  • Tissue tearing (ex. whiplash, sprain/strains)
  • Repetitive motion (ex. running, computer work, sports)
  • Constant tension (ex. desk jobs, students)

These all cause inflammation and swelling of soft tissue. The body responds to this by laying down scar tissue (disorganized collagen fibers) in an attempt to protect the affected area. Scar tissue can cause:

  • Diminished blood flow
  • Nerve entrapments
  • Reduced mobility
  • Reduced muscle strength/endurance
  • Pain, tingling, numbness and burning sensations
  • Increased friction and pressure between tissue layers

This results in the production of even more scar tissue and more inflammation. Regardless of how scar tissue is formed, it cannot be re-absorbed by the body without treatment.

Will Adhesion Breakers help me?
If you have any nagging aches and pains, Adhesion Breakers may be helpful to allow your body to break down scar tissue, restart the healing process, and redirect your tissues to form in proper alignment. All soft tissues have the ability to regain their elasticity, strength and endurance, which means you can get back to feeling your best.

What are the side effects?
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy is creating minor trauma to soft tissues to kick-start the healing process. Some patients experience mild discomfort during the treatment and the area may be sensitive for up to a day post treatment. The treatment area often becomes red following treatment, especially in areas where more scar tissue is present.
